3 Ways to Use CBD This Summer

For many, the constant go-go-go of the season can be overwhelming, and it’s difficult to fully enjoy the relaxation of a summertime trip, day in the sand, or family holiday. For anyone looking to make the most out of this summer, adding a regiment of CBD products can be the perfect way to soak it all in.

The Basics of CBD

Before beginning this regiment, it’s important to discuss your needs and goals for taking CBD with your doctor. While this naturally-occurring extract sees little to no side effects, it can sometimes interact with various preexisting medications. That being said, this compound found in the cannabis or hemp plant has been shown to decrease symptoms of anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic pain, and more.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of nearly 60 compounds found in the cannabis plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, cannabidiol contains no psychoactive elements, meaning patients will feel no sense of a “high”. CBD activates the receptors found in the physiologic system known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS regulates everything from immune functioning to nervous system regulation and is found in nearly every internal organ. The strong connection between mental and physical health is proven further by the ways in which CBD can relieve each aspect of both, creating an overall sense of well-being.

Relieving Stress

While a summer vacation is often the highlight of the season, many find the process of packing, planning, and traveling quite stressful. For those with anxiety disorders, new destinations, along with fear of flying or other aspects of travel, can be a trigger. In these instances, taking CBD can ease the central nervous system, prevent reabsorption of serotonin in the brain, and create an overall sense of calm.

Fighting Free Radicals

We’ve all heard the term “free radicals” when it comes to skincare, but what does it really mean? Essentially, free radicals are the result of oxygen metabolism from prolonged exposure to environmental factors like UV that cause damage to tissues and cells within the body. Antioxidants are the body’s natural way of combating these radicals.

Cannabidiol is a powerful antioxidant, even more powerful than vitamins E and C. With the extra exposure to UV rays during the summer months, avoiding free radicals can be difficult. Thanks to its antioxidant powers, however, CBD can protect your skin from these skin-damaging nuisances with daily topical application.

Reduce Sun Damage

One of the greatest detriments to summer fun is sunburn. The human body produces a natural sunblock known as melanin that works to defend the body from harmful UV rays. However, only so much melanin can be produced, and after extended exposure, the melanin can no longer form a strong defense, thus resulting in sunburn. Prolonged exposure to UV with recurring sunburn can result in the premature aging and wrinkling of skin, and in extreme cases, various forms of skin cancer.

CBD can be purchased in a wide range of products including topical salves and lotions. Due to its proven anti-inflammatory qualities, a combination of CBD and aloe vera can aid in reducing the sting and inflammation of a sunburn in order to shorten healing time.

Before starting your new CBD summer regiment, it’s important to do your research. Once you’ve found the CBD product and dosage that’s right for you, you’re sure to enjoy a relaxed, worry-free, sun-filled summer season!
